The Medical Services Plan of BC unfortunately does not cover the cost of seeing a Registered Psychologist. However, there may be other ways to have the cost of sessions reimbursed to you.

Here are a few below:

Extended Health Benefits: Many extended health benefits plans cover services offered by Registered Psychologists. Talk to your insurance provider to inquire about your annual coverage. I will provide you with a receipt at the end of your session which you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

ICBC: In some cases, ICBC will reimburse claimants for services offered by a Registered Psychologist if the psychological issues were caused by the motor vehicle accident. Contact your case manager at ICBC to inquire about your potential entitlement for psychology services. I will provide you with a receipt at the end of your session which you can submit for reimbursement.

RCMP, Veteran Affairs Canada, and Canadian Armed Forces: I am a registered mental health provider with these organizations under Medavie Blue Cross, and can direct bill for psychology services. These organizations may cover members, as well as their family members, for treatment of mental health issues. Contact your health benefits program to inquire about your potential coverage for services with a Registered Psychologist.

Talk to your tax advisor about potentially claiming your Psychologist’s fees as a medical expense or income tax deduction. Many of my clients hold on to their receipts for this purpose. Alternatively, I can provide a Statement of Account at the end of the year.

Feel free to contact me with any further questions.
