Counselling and Assessment Services
What to Expect
A psychologist’s clinical training enables him or her to challenge and support you in ways that your friends cannot. Often just telling a professional, who is not otherwise involved in your life, about the distress or difficulties you are experiencing can be very therapeutic. It can reduce your feelings of isolation and reassure you that you are not alone.
Everything you say in sessions will be kept confidential. Only under very specific circumstances am I obligated to report to appropriate authorities, such as if you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else. I am also obligated to report on issues of child or elder abuse and in cases where I am court ordered. However, these kinds of situations are rare. The purpose of counseling is to ease your emotional distress and improve your functioning and life satisfaction, in a safe and non-judgmental space where you can share whatever you wish.
Please refer to Therapy and Coaching for more information and for examples of concerns that can be addressed in treatment.
